On The Ground: Building Bloc & Partners Support Amputee Care in Ukraine

Building Bloc Systems Inc. is uniting Canadian expertise to deliver transformative support for Ukraine’s amputees, launching a pan-Canadian “Team Canada” alliance in response to a call for help from the Government of Ukraine, and an appeal from PM Carney to Canadian businesses to step up.

We are bringing together leading experts and innovators in orthotics, prosthetics, advanced 3D print manufacturing, and rehabilitation to develop a paradigm-shifting approach for patient care. With over 70,000 Ukrainians in urgent need and the number growing each day, Building Bloc has developed a point-of-care solution that unites the world’s leading additive manufacturing technologies with deployable, customized patient care. Our breakthrough “Delta” microfactory meets patients where they are, delivering rapid assessment, custom fitting, and rehabilitation directly at the point of need and at the scale needed.

This collaborative effort, with Ukraine at the helm, aims at restoring mobility and dignity for war amputees, within days and not months, allowing them to reclaim independence swiftly. Our holistic, trauma-informed approach integrates multiple dimensions to ensure continuity of clinical care and form the backbone of lasting recovery. It’s more than just prosthetics, it’s a community of care, mental health support, early physical recovery and a return to family.

There is a broader legacy we aspire to enable: this initiative fuels a scalable system that builds Ukrainian health care resiliency, trains professionals, and secures supply channels, laying the groundwork for long-term independence. We are proud to work alongside our incredible Canadian and Ukrainian partners across government and the innovation ecosystem to further our commitment to human-centered recovery and global leadership in field-ready health innovations.
